All readers of the Gita, if they are serious about it, get a common doubt, which is legitimate and universal. It is the question: Is Krishna ultimately recommending renunciation of works or the doing of works? Arjuna himself had this doubt and he asks the Lord three times almost the same question once each at the beginnings of the 3rd, 5th and 18th chapters.  It is our fortune that the 5th chapter is more emphatic and to the point and with Acharya Shankara’s commentary we get to know the right answer.
